The Journey Begins

It is 9:23am and we have just settled in at the hospital. We were supposed to be here at 6am, but a lot of other mommies are having babies today so rooms weren’t available.

Nurse Sally (left) and Nurse Erin (erin) are checking mommy’s vitals and asking a bunch of questions.

Here are your vitals. The yellow squiggly line, the top one, is your heart rate and the bottom white one is mommy’s. The yellow line at the bottom shows the contractions.

2:11pm and mommy’s water just broke!
5:33pm you are here!  Welcome to the world baby Mallory!  You came out super fast. Mommy said she felt you drop down and when the doctor, Tina, checked she said your head was right there and she rallied the troops. Nurses came flooding in and in one contraction you literally came flying out. Tina had to catch you like a football. You were super blue, due to the cord being wrapped around your neck, but no worries because you began to cry.

January 25 (night) –

You slept really well.  Mommy and Daddy got a good solid four or five hours of sleep.  Through the night you were grunting a little bit, so we had Nurse Tony check you out.

When you came out one of the nurses noticed you were grunting and said it was because your air sacs in your lungs weren’t functioning at a 100%.  She put you on a CPAP machine which gently forces air into your lungs to help with opening those air sacs up.

Nurse Tony said there was nothing to worry about and if it continued for long periods of time that he could put you in the nursery for closer observation.  Luckily your grunting started to taper off so there was no need.

January 26 –

You slept ALL day… literally.

That night was a different story.  We knew the night before was too good to be true.  Typing this the morning after is still kind of a blur.  You were just wide awake and started to get crabby around 10 or so.  Tried feeding at 10:25, but you had a hard time latching so mommy pumped what she could.  Gave you about 1/2ml and that didn’t really hit the spot for you.  Daddy took you and started to calm you down while mommy’s boobs recharged.

I think around 11 we all took a short hour nap.  You started to stir again and we decided to give you a little bit of formula to help fill you up.  After giving you about 10ml of formula you finally dozed off and slept a good 6 hours.

It was a crazy night, one that I am sure will happen several more times but hopefully not haha.
