A day at the lake

Today we went down to Caverun Lake with grandma and grandpa. We spent the whole day on their boat. The kids had an absolute blast! The water was perfect, along with the weather, so we quickly hit the water and found a beach to tie off too. The kids enjoyed walking along the beach looking for rocks and shells. This beach is known as Glass Beach to grandma and grandpa. While walking along it you can sometimes happen upon small pieces of glass that have been rubbing up against the rocks for years. This causes all the sharp edges to be filed down, and you are left with a very smooth piece of glass. The kids, especially Colton, really enjoyed finding and putting them in his cup for safe keeping.

Once the kids got in the water, it was very hard to get them out. Colton learned to go under water and hold his breath for 20 seconds! All of this without goggles, which impressed mom and dad.

Mallory enjoyed swimming with her pool noodle, and kept mom on edge as she swam farther and farther out from shore with grandma.

Colton hit a milestone in his life by learning how to skip a rock. I think his record was three skips! I was very proud that he stuck with it and didn’t get frustrated.

Both Colton and Mallory took turns “driving” the boat with grandpa.

That morning when I woke up I say a notification on Facebook showing that 2 years ago today we were on the lake with grandma and grandpa. The notification showed a photo of Colton sitting on grandpa’s lap driving the boat in the same life jacket.
