We started packing the car Thursday evening and finished very early Friday morning… zzzzzz… oh sorry, I dozed off there.
The kids are doing great… Mallory that is. It only took about 2 hours before Colton started asking if we were there yet. Of course as I write this, in the car, Mallory has started whining. I guess they are in a tag team match with one another.
After about 16 hours, and some absolutely horrible Sonic food, we finally arrived at Mimi and Papa’s house. We arrived late so, after saying our hellos we were off to bed.
Due to Covid-19, we pretty much stayed home. Our days consisted of waking up, eating breakfast, swimming, napping, swimming, and dinner. Rinse and repeat for 8 days.
The coolest part of the trip, I think, was how much Colton improved with swimming. He could swim pretty well, thanks to swim school, but he became so much more confident in the pool this trip. Once he realized he could walk around in the shallow end, he was totally independent. Mallory became more confident in the water as well. Her arm pulls and leg kicks have improved. We can’t wait to see what their swim teachers think of them.
Most days were spent swimming in the morning and evenings. One evening we took a walk over to the Peacock neighborhood. Colton was worried that the Peacocks would bite him. As soon as we pulled up one peacock did wonder over towards Mimi and Papa’s car, but he soon wondered off.
On Friday, we went to the Houston Zoo. Some of our favorite things were how close we could get to the giraffes, the cute baby elephant and the meerkats of course.
Saturday evening, Papa cooked us some pizzas on his fancy smoker/grill/pizza oven. Probably one of the best pizzas I/we have ever had. Mallory enjoyed putting toppings on. Colton kind of enjoyed it, he was in one of his moods.
We left early Monday morning. The kiddos took a photo with Mimi and Papa before going to bed Sunday night. The ride home was pretty uneventful. The kids were as good as they could be for a 16 hour car ride.
