Today we went to Highland Hills Park to partake in a scavenger hunt. Mommy found a post on Facebook about woodcarvings along a few trails at the park.
We loaded some water and snacks in a backpack and headed off to the park. Daddy took his camera to… take pictures of the adventure.
As soon as we got out of the car mom ran over to the sign to brag about her cross country victories.
Mallory and Colton were excited and photogenic for the first part of the hike, but soon started to get crabby about an hour in.
Colton was the trail leader for most of the hike.
It only took us about 10 minutes before we didn’t know what trail we were on, so it took us some time to find the carvings. Mallory and Colton didn’t mind though. They were all about picking up sticks and rocks and exploring.
Finally, we found our first set of woodcarvings. Three green aliens. Mallory was in love with them, so much so that when mom said, “Mallory, act like you are giving the alien a kiss.” Mallory decided to full bore and plant a big wet one right on the alien’s mouth.
We continued on. Mallory liked taking her sweet time walking because she had to stop every five seconds to pick up a leaf or a rock or a stick or a piece of mulch.
So daddy and Mallory fell far behind mommy and Colton.
Finally, we caught up to mommy and Colton patiently waiting for us on a bridge.
Daddy spotted a very ancient rock formation in the creek.
While the kids were still in good spirits we continued on.
It wasn’t hard to spot the colorful owl carving down the trail.
Mallory was about finished after this photo. You can start to see “I’m done with this” Mallory emerging.
Before finishing up, not because we came to the end of the trail but because we came to the end of the kid’s attention span, we came across two more carvings.
It was a beautiful day and we will be back to find the rest of the carvings.
Lovely. How interesting. Looks like fun.
