First Grade Homework Blues

Tonight, Colton had some reading homework. The reading part of the homework, like always, went really well.

When it came to answering questions about the book… his anxiety monster reared its ugly face.

He was so sure that the worksheet did not go along with the book he just read, and he didn’t care what we had to say about it. Mom knew for a fact that it was the correct book and worksheet. How was she so sure? Because she teaches first grade RIGHT NEXT to his room.

At one point, we were literally telling him what to write. Yes, we were helping a 6-year-old cheat on his first-grade homework. Mom went off to give stinky Mallory a bath, and I sat with Colton for a solid 30 minutes just trying to calm him down. It didn’t help that his nose was running prior to the whole ordeal, and now that he was crying his once slow drip of snot quickly turned into Niagra Falls. So that only compounded the issue. After some tickles and a lollypop, he finally calmed down enough to write down what I told him. All in all, it took a good hour, 20 kleenexes, a sucker, and some tickles to finish 4 questions. Boy oh boy I hope I pass the reading homework.
